Abstract
Monomeric maternal antibodies are transmitted to the fetus, but most immune complexes are trapped in the placental stroma. The receptors responsible for trapping immune complexes appear to be FcγRIa, FcγRIIa, and FcγRIIIa on stromal macrophages, and FcγRII on fetal capillary endothelial cells.
