Abstract
Objective To uncover the effect of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) on the invasion of choriocarcinoma cells. Methods The effect of hCG on the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in JEG\|3 choriocarcinoma cell line was investigated by applying the method of reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT\|PCR). Results The results showed that, among the 18 types of MMPs only MMP\|8,\|10, \|12,\|19 were found to be expressed by JEG\|3 cells. After the incubation with 25 IU/ml hCG for 50hours, the expression of these 4 types of MMPs were all significantly reduced. Conclusion The invasiveness of JEG\|3 choriocarcinoma cell line was associated with the expression of MMP\|8, \|10, \|12, \|19, high levels of hCG could reduce the invasion of choriocarcinoma cells by inhibiting MMPs expression.
