Abstract

April 30‐May 2, 1933—This storm of moderate intensity began with a sudden commencement in all three elements on April 30, 1933, at 16h 27m 49s Greenwich mean time as determined from the magnetogram from the rapid la Cour magnetograph. By 16h 28m 16s the horizontal intensity had decreased 14γ. From that time until 16h 32m 42s, when the maximum value of the storm was recorded, there was a continual increase in horizontal intensity amounting to 99γ. Slow irregular short‐period oscillations marked the horizontal‐intensity trace up to 21h 18m. The values of horizontal intensity decreased 294γ during this period—approximately three times as rapidly as normal. From 21h to 23h there was a recovery of 54γ in horizontal intensity which was lost by 0h May 1.
