Abstract

oday’s research is tomorrow’s practice. Future medical research will confirm new approaches to disease processesthat will be used to develop tomorrow’s clinical guidelines. In order for this to occur, researchers must be able toeffectively translate scientific data into publishable literature. Researchers must also know how to effectively presentthis information to an international audience. The English language is currently the predominant language used forthe publication of scientific investigation in international journals and at international conferences. It therefore behoovesresearchers to learn how to write and present scientific manuscripts in English. Furnished with solid English communicationskills, researchers will find themselves armed and ready to rapidly disseminate knowledge worldwide.This article aims: (i) to discuss the basic tenets of preparing and editing a manuscript in English for submission to a scientificjournal; and (ii) to offer recommendations on how to prepare an effective English language visual and oral presentation. Thisarticle does not focus on developing the basic content of publications or presentations, but rather on the editing and reviewingprocess with the goal that information can be successfully and smoothly propagated.
