Abstract

A. Kotliar (Doctor of Economic Sciences; department chief, Central Scientific Research Laboratory of Labor Resources). Today everyone is unanimous in considering socialism and unemployment incompatible. But not so long ago, even quite authoritative and competent economists were writing the opposite, i.e., that a certain amount of unemployment would not be a bad thing. I believe that unemployment is not socialism. If there is unemployment, it is altogether incomprehensible why socialism exists, because there is a socioeconomic system that produces rather good results in the presence of unemployment.
