Abstract

The features of machining of titanium alloys by cutting are considered. Measures are developed to improve the machinability of these alloys. It is shown that a decrease in the vibration amplitudes of the machine—fixture—tool—part (MFTP) technological system during cutting can significantly increase the machinability of such materials. Methods are given to increase the vibration resistance of the MFTP system, the accuracy of processing and tool life when threading with taps and drilling, namely: reducing the contact area of the tool with the workpiece in the cutting zone; increasing the strength and stiffness of the tool itself. It is indicated that the first method is the main one for increasing the tool life and the quality of hole processing. Taking this into account, patented high-performance designs of taps and attachments, drills are developed. The results of their tests are presented. Keywords: titanium alloys, machinability of titanium alloys, processing of holes, taps, drills for titanium machining. ragus05@mail.ru
