Abstract

This article illustrates the analysis of Walter Scott’s historical novels. The aim of this work is to determine the peculiarities of the use of real historical figures in the works of the famous English writer Walter Scott. Achieving this goal led to the solution of the following tasks: consider the depiction of history in Walter Scott’s novels, to identify the description of English historical figures and literary hero in Scott’s novels. The focus of the research are the English historical novels “Waverly or Tis sixty years since” and “Ivanhoe”. The main research method is comparative analysis. The relevance of the work is determined by the need for further study of the genre of a historical novel in literature and the use of real life and artistic elements in Walter Scott’s novels.
