Abstract

The research is devoted to the topic of the historical and cultural heritage of the Chuisky Tract in the works of pre-Soviet travelers and scientists who visited the Altai Mountains with expedition research in the 19th – early 20th century. Travel notes and travel diaries provide an opportunity to consider the historical and cultural diversity of the region in the period under study – from the beginning of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th centuries. Along with natural scientific materials, scientists collected valuable historical, ethnographic, linguistic and folklore materials representing the most important sources for the study of the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of the Altai of the pre-Soviet period. In travel diaries and scientific reports that captured historical monuments, customs and traditions of the indigenous population, some of which have not reached our days, the image of the Chuisky Tract as a road through time and space gradually formed.
