Have a Personal Mission and Vision [The Way Ahead

Abstract

Do you have a vision? This issue of IEEE Potentials is about medical technology. I want to consider vision as a concept that encompasses more than just the physical ability to see or technology that helps with physical vision. Most organizations have mission and vision statements. A mission statement defines the organization’s business, its objectives, and its approach to reaching those objectives, whereas a vision statement describes the desired future position of the organization. The mission statement describes what you want to do now, and the vision statement outlines what you want to be in the future. The IEEE’s mission statement is “IEEE’s core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.”
