Abstract

Zn 3P 2, Cd 3P 2 and Cd 3As 2 crystals have been grown from the vapour phase by the static sublimation and Piper-Polich methods. The morphology of the resulting crystals is described and compared with theoretical predictions obtained by Periodic Bond Chain (PBC) analysis. The PBC's are determined by visual inspection of Zn 3P 2 type structure in which Zn 3P 2, Cd 3P 2 and Cd 3As 2 crystallize. The theoretical and growth habits appear to be mainly limited by {101}, {001} and {110} planes.
