Abstract

1. On modern large dams, where the number of grouting areas runs into thousands, independently of the construction of the system and discharges, a certain number of faulty areas is evidently inevitable. Grouting of the joint in this case is possible only by a system of boreholes. The work carried out at the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric station points to the possibility of effective initial grouting through boreholes, accompanied by careful and reliable checking. 2. With a small joint opening, increasing the number of intersections with the joint does not yield the anticipated result. In order to determine the number of boreholes, data should be available regarding the joint opening, as obtained from remote gap meters. 3. Considering the positive results of the control works, the method described for grouting the plugs of submerged openings can be recommended for conditions approaching those encountered in the construction of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric station.
