Abstract
The protection of genetic resources is closely related to the implementation of the provisions of international legal acts based on the Convention on Biological Diversity. The new accessions are acquired both during the expeditions in Poland and abroad (mainly neighbouring countries) and exchange with other scientific research institutes, botanical gardens and genebanks. During the expedition conducted in Poland in 1996–2016, 5 154 accessions were collected and abroad expeditions in the neighbouring countries brought 8 305 accessions. Materials collected during the expedition after identification and multiplication is passed to the long-term storage or are conserved in other forms. The identification is carried out using traditional methods based on the developed morphological descriptors but also using modern molecular methods.
