Abstract

The main purpose of this research is; Adopting the design philosophy of “Less is More” Less is to analyze the effects of minimalism in graphic design on chocolate packaging. Today, innovations brought by technology and increased design possibilities bring material and design pollution with it. This situation creates the need to simplify the design. Minimalism is considered one of the important breaking points in the history of art and design. Minimal designs are designs that can become functional and purify their message in the simplest way. The principles of minimalism are important for creating designs whose functionality is to provide reality. The use of lean form is one of these, and flashy, fancy forms should be avoided to achieve leanness. Of a design; its simple form, its basic form consisting of one or more parts, which allows it to become a meaningful whole, is its unchangeable reality. The graphic designer is to demonstrate the principles of minimalism in the solution of the design problem by showing the reality and function of the product to be designed by adhering to the basis of the principles. The function of a design corresponds to the principle "form follows function" in minimalism. The packaging of products on the shelves often triggers the purchase. Brand value, product quality and type are important details that the consumer does not ignore. It can be seen that the packaging design can reach the target audience by being designed in simple and low forms. With the developing packaging technology, more useful and flashy packages are produced. However, it is noteworthy that some of the packages designed to be more remarkable are moved away from the design principles and with a complex design understanding instead of a plain language. Research; The literature review method will firstly outline the concept of the packaging design and reveal the elements of the concept. Secondly, in line with this concept, it will analyze the importance of minimalism movement in graphic design through chocolate packaging samples.
