Abstract

Throughout the design history, technological and social developments and changes have been effective in shaping the design product. The technological infrastructure and needs of the period are the determining factors in the emergence of these products. These products also affect the lifestyles of people living in that period. With the influence of both technology and lifestyles, the design product does not only change its physical form, but also undergoes a transformation with the symbolic meanings it acquires. The housing kitchen space and the equipment elements that make up the kitchen space also change by going through these processes. Not only technology and need have an effect on spatial organizations that differ with this change. In this context, a historical analysis was made and the periods of the residential kitchen space were examined. The aim of the study is to mention how the residential kitchen space has developed in the historical process, as well as how the kitchen spaces we use today have changed (physically and socially) with the modern period.
