Abstract

The use of gettering has been important for magnetic confinement fusion research. It has helped to increase the understanding of plasma material interactions and has facilitated the access to new modes of device operation. In this paper we review the characteristics of getters used in fusion research. We also present a survey of the past, present, and future applications in mirrors and tokamaks.
