Geometrical classifications of 0<K<1 and −1<K<0 for conditionally stable amplifiers

Abstract

AbstractThe geometrical interpretation of 0<K<1 and −1<K<0 for conditionally stable (|K|<1) amplifiers is identified on the Smith chart with the help of B‐, D‐, and E‐factors. A simultaneous conjugate match is impossible for conditionally stable designs, but a conditionally stable amplifier with 0<K<1 can be designed with single‐sided matching. There are totally eight geometrical situations for conditional stable amplifiers in terms of K‐, B‐, D‐, and E‐factors. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 31: 18–20, 2001.
