Abstract
Transect 8, El Palmar-cerro Corea, was studied within the program established to understand the geologic evolution of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM). T his study was conducted within the framework of the Agreement of Technological Cooperation 006 of 2005 between Instituto Colombiano de Geologia y Mineria (INGEOMINAS), Instituto Colombiano de Petroleo (ICP), Empresa Colombiana de Petroleos (ECOPETROL) and Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras (INVEMAR) and has one fundamental objective: to describe, based on field studies which emphasized the textura! and structural characteristics of the units present, the general geology of the outcrops on the western flank of the SNSM, along the Sevilla River and along the highways that traverse east-west and northeast-southwest.
