Abstract
This introduction contains a short history of the study of the Quaternary of Colombia during the last fifteen years, and the history (and some results) of the present project, that started in 1967. The Department of Palynology of the University of Amsterdam carries out this project with grants from the Netherlands Foundation for the Advancement of Tropical Research (WOTRO), with close collaboration of other Dutch institutes and of the following Colombian institutions: Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Geológico-Mineras (Ingeominas), Instituto de Ciencias Naturales of the Universidad Nacional (Bogotá) and the Instituto Colombiano de Antropología. A bibliography on or of interest to the Quaternary of Colombia is added. The present volume is the first of a series on the Quaternary of Colombia. This series of publications will include studies on palynology, stratigraphy, radiocarbon, vertebrate paleontology, paleopedology, geomorphology, archeology and prehistory, phytogeography, phytosociology, etc.
