Abstract
An overall view of computer technology and application in China is presented. China began to develop computer technology in 1956. Briefly described is the history of the development of computer industry in China, which comprises three periods: an initial period (1956–1971), the transformation to industrial development (1972–1979), and a new period for computer production and application (1980-todate). The main accomplishments in each period are given.The development of series computers, Chinese information processing technology and some new techniques are described. Recently, great emphasis has been placed on the computer application in China. The applications in the technical reformation of conventional industries, in the management modernization, in the energy exploitation and saving, in the transportation, etc. are of concern.
