Abstract

This paper aims to review current gender issues concerning STEM career aspirations under two broad topics (1) relationships between abilities, interest, self-efficacy and STEM aspirations, and (2) effect of perceived characteristics of STEM careers and lifestyle preferences on a career decision. Although the gender in STEM is a “wicked problem” involving complex interconnections of multiple contributors, this paper emphasizes the importance of early interventions at school giving proper impressions and information about STEM careers by doing science practices under gender-neutral atmosphere.
