Abstract
ABSTRACT Gel foam fire prevention and extinguishing technology, characterized by its exceptional coverage, water retention, oxygen isolation, and cooling properties, exhibits significant potential for development and application in the prevention and control of coal spontaneous combustion. To promote the efficient utilization of gel foam, this paper provides an overview of recent research developments and application results. Starting with the gel foam’s composition, characteristics, classification and effect, the research state and existing issues of materials are outlined. And its development prospects are also prospected. The effective usage, production process optimization, and flow-accumulation characteristics of gel foam in the goaf are the three main issues that need to be addressed. To achieve the scaled utilization of gel foam in the prevention and control of coal spontaneous combustion, and promote the safe and environmentally responsible growth of the coal industry, it is proposed that future research should focus on novel functionalized green and environmentally friendly gel foam, performance prediction model, automatic preparation system, as well as intelligent monitoring and feedback system. A review of the latest research progress on gel foam can enhance its efficient utilization in prevention and controlling coal spontaneous combustion, as well as support the development of more effective, economical, and environmentally friendly gel foam materials.
