Abstract

AbstractThis study was undertaken with the objective of assessing the current state of gas injection technology in steelmaking and characterizing the mixing and mass transfer phenomena involved in this technology. The study was based on a critical review and analysis ofthe technical literature on the subject and on interviews with technical experts in universities and in the steel industry.Within a short distance above the point of entry, the gas mass, injected through either tuyeres or porous plugs, disintegrates into small bubbles. The two-phase flow region, or “plume”, has the form of a cone and the flow velocities within it range up to 1m s −1 or higher, depending on the injected gas flow rate. For the same overall gas flow rate, the mass transfer between gas and liquid is increased by using multiple gas entry points. Resume Le but de cette etude est d' evaluer l'etat de la technologie de l'injection de gaz dans l'industrie siderugique et les phenomenes de melange et de transfert de masse. Cette etude...
