Abstract

ABSTRACT Fe30-15TiC, Fe30-15TiC-10Al, -10Co and -10Mo coatings were prepared on 45 steel by laser cladding, and their microstructure, hardness and phases were analysed using an optical microscope, microhardness tester and X-ray diffraction, respectively. The effects of Al, Co and Mo additions on the corrosive-wear and electrochemical properties of Fe30-15TiC coating were investigated using a wear tester and electrochemical workstation, and the corrosive-wear mechanism was also discussed in detail. The results show that the microstructure of the coating surfaces mainly presents cellular and chrysanthemum and a few dendritic structures, and the gains of Fe-15TiC coating were refined by the additions of Al, Co and Mo. The hardness of Fe30-15TiC, Fe30-15TiC-10Al, -10Co and -10Mo coatings are 704.51 ± 35, 779.21 ± 38, 718.48 ± 36 and 817.53 ± 41 HV0.5, respectively, and the corresponding wear rates are 267.87, 258.68, 359.54 and 188.93 µm³•s−¹•N−¹, respectively, showing that the wear resistance of Fe30-15TiC coating is improved by the addition of Al and Mo. Moreover, the corrosion rates of Fe30-15TiC, Fe30-15TiC-10Al, -10Co and -10Mo coatings are 1.37 × 10−2, 0.98 × 10−2, 2.72 × 10−2 and 0.99 × 10−2 cm2•year−1, respectively, showing that the corrosion resistance of Fe30-15TiC coating is improved by the additions of Al and Mo.
