Abstract

A model-based gain scheduling proportional integral (GS-PI) control mechanism is developed to control a boiler-turbine system. The performance of GS-PI controller is compared with the traditional fixed gain proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller using various performance measures such as integral time average error (ITAE), integral absolute error (IAE), integral square error (ISE), and integral time square error (ITSE). Performance analysis of the system reveals that the GS-PI controller performs better than the PID controller for every measure considered. The overall process is found to be stable as per the Bode stability criterion presented in this work.
