Abstract

This paper deals with automatic generation control of multi area power system, which is carried out a three area hydrothermal power system with integral controller. This system consisting of two thermal areas and one hydro area. The thermal area carries a reheat turbine and hydro area consists of mechanical governor. These areas are interconnected through tie-lines the power is transferred or exchanged through these tie-lines, for obtaining of better response when disturbance occurs. The system dynamic performance is controlled with integral controller. The optimization of integral controllers gain has been carried out using Integral Time Square Error (ITSE), Integral Square Error (ISE), Integral Absolute Error (IAE) and Integral Absolute Time Error (IATE). The minimum value of performance index gives better dynamic response. Investigation has been made for selection of suitable technique for tuning integral controller gain when the 1 Y0 % of step load is given in the thermal area (area 1). Finally simulation results conclude that IATE method is better compare to ISE, IAE and ITSE.
