Abstract

Narrow harbour approach channels are special areas due to vessel traffic management. Vessel Traffic Management Systems (VTMS), aiming at assuring a required level of safety, direct vessels in order to minimise their waiting times for fairway passage. The fairway between the ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie is covered by special requirements of vessel traffic: possibilities of vessels' passing or overtaking are limited, various vessel speeds are allowed depending on a fairway section, etc. The traffic management problem can be solved by various methods, of which one is the model of vessel traffic optimisation. In order to make solutions more flexible, a model with fuzzy coefficients was applied. The article presents solutions to the vessel traffic optimisation problem with the use of two interpretations of fuzzy inequalities: pessimistic and optimistic. The calculation results are shown. These refer to vessel traffic in the SzczecinSwinoujscie fairway. The results have been interpreted and conclusions have been drawn.
