Abstract
This paper examines critically the information extracting capability of a class-C oscillator from an FM wave corrupted by additive white Gaussian noise. In this respect, the performance of a locked oscillator using the class-C operation has been studied in detail with particular emphasis on the effect of the time constant of the grid-leak circuit. It has been shown that the choice of an appropriate value of the time constant increases the capability of the system in detecting the signal. Experimental results have been presented in support of the conclusion.
