Functional and Stylistic Aspects of Foreign Toponyms Used in the Literary Texts of Michael Matusovsky

Abstract

Various aspects of the study of toponymic vocabulary in modern linguistics are analyzed, the principles of distinguishing foreign language toponymic units in the literary texts of M. Matusovsky are described. Various groups of toponyms from the writer's works are studied. The statistics of the toponymic units use is presented. The stylistic features of the use of foreign toponyms in the writer's poetic and prose works are studied. The main functions of toponym usage are: depiction of local, historical aspects as well as landscape peculiarities and a real image of the environment. Among the figures of speech with toponyms, the most common are antithesis, epiphora, parallelism. Toponyms are also used in the formation of rhetoric speeches, they perform a rhythmic and intonation function.
