Abstract
A novel fuel gauge system for agricultural equipment using a characteristic chart which is optimised for specific vehicle types is presented. The use of the proposed characteristic chart is advantageous for agricultural machines which move over irregular shapes of land since fuel information can be more accurately and easily optimised regardless of the shape and capacity of the fuel tank. The proposed method could also be useful in the machines which require various tank shapes for critical balancing and where there are space issues for fuel tanks. The developed method was tested for a commercial 35-litre capacity fuel system. Fuel gauges using mass product movement coils were used to validate the concept. From this research, it appears possible to design standard parts for efficient fuel system matching by applying the characteristic chart method.
