Abstract

The Front Cover highlights a new continuous catalytic process to isomerize glucose into fructose in aqueous media under mild reaction conditions by using hydrotalcite-derived Ca-Al-O mixed oxide as heterogeneous catalyst. In their Full Paper, M. Ventura et al. present one of the first successful examples in the literature of a continuous non-enzymatic route for this reaction. Furthermore, the search for adequate operational conditions to optimize the process and maximize fructose production is thoroughly described. As a result, high glucose conversion and fructose yields are achieved with an affordable Ca-Al-based material as stable catalyst. More information about the work carried out by researchers of Instituto de Tecnología Química (UPV – CSIC) of Valencia, Spain can be found in the Full Paper by M. Ventura et al.
