Abstract

The electrical power system operates under variable load condi-tion, so the load tracking problem will arise which can cause voltageand frequency instabilities. Energy storage devices are able to balancethe fluctuation of power generation and consumption. In this article theuse of Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) system for microgrid isproposed. Under variable load conditions, the stored compressed airfrom the CAES system will be utilized to meet the demand. Duringpower generation an excess power is used to compress the air. An airflow controller for CAES is designed to control the air flow from theCAES system, so that the microgrid follows the various load demandsto maintain the stable frequency. The performance of the proposed sys-tem is validated through simulation study for various load conditionsis carried out using MATLAB/Simulink.
