Abstract
Formaldehyde is a ubiquitous low—molecularweight substance with a wide range of applications. Millions of Americans are exposed to formaldehyde on a daily basis by inhalation and skin contact. This review focuses on physical properties as well as potential health effects of formaldehyde exposure. The potential for irritational syndromes are discussed. Systemic reactions, dermatologic and respiratory disease are reviewed. Studies on formaldehyde’s potential as a carcinogenic substance are presented
