Abstract
Generally, food policy is required to play an important role in the following aspects for society, i.e., to ensure food security, to cope with structural changes in food consumption and to realise sustainable development. However, the issues of food security and sustainability have different meanings when they are considered at the global, regional, national and local levels. Research on food policy up to now has been focusing on investigating the relationship between average income level and corresponding food demand at country level. Research related to the impact of the income gap on food demand along with economic growth is also insufficient. In this research, the impact of economic growth on food consumption in Asia will be analysed by taking the income gap into consideration. It will also draw policy implications for food security and sustainability according to analytical results.
