Abstract

The Editorial Panel is presenting the following problem to stimulate submissions to “The Thinking of Students” department We encourage teachers to try this problem with students and analyze the different ways that they approach the problem. If students employ unusual strategies, please write a brief description of specific approaches, including some examples of students' work, and submit them to “The Thinking of Students,” Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, 1906 Association Drive, Reston, VA 22091-1593. The Editorial Panel would like to publish some of these submissions and credit specific students' work. The correct answer will be published in a future issue, along with students' examples.
