Abstract

Abstract Cotton was planted on 17 May at the Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Painter, VA. Each plot consisted of a single 25-ft row, bordered on each side by an untreated guard row, with 3 ft row spacing. Each treatment was replicated 4 times in a RCB design. In order to flare the aphid population as uniformly as possible throughout the test, the entire site was sprayed with 0.05 lb(AI)/acre Asana XL on 26 Jul and 2 and 8 Aug. The treatments were applied on 15 Aug using a 3 hollow cone nozzle boom backpack sprayer delivering 60 gpa at 40 psi. Evaluation criteria consisted of counts of the total number of aphids on 5 randomly picked leaves/plot pre-treatment and at 7 and 14 DAT.
