Abstract
BS>Analyses of deformed shim-safety rods in the Ford Nuclear Reactor indicated the presence of a H, O, and N mixture with no significant concentration of He. The presence of water in the rod indicates that the deformation is caused by radiolytic dissociation. This is supported by the presence of H in the shim rods, but the possibility of attaining pressures capable of expannding the shim rods is still subject to question. (N.W.R.)
