Abstract

AbstractAs part of an extended research program concerning the phase behaviour and thermodynamics of fluid mixtures at high pressure, the liquid‐liquid phase equilibria in the binary system 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydronaphthalene + H2O, decahydronaphthalene(cis) + H2O, and decahydro‐naphthalene(trans) + H2O as well as in the ternary system 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydronaphthalene + decahydronaphthalene(trans) + H2O were measured in the temperature range from 280°C to 420°C and at pressures up to 2600 bar with an optical high temperature high pressure autoclave using magnetic stirring. All systems show upper solution temperatures that increase with increasing pressure. — The results are compared with data obtained for the liquid‐liquid phase equilibria in the system methane + trifluoromethane at temperatures between — 118°C and — 95°C and at pressures up to 1900 bar in a high pressure low temperature autoclave. This system also exhibits upper solution temperatures that increase with increasing pressure.
