Abstract

The review of the critical dynamics near ferroelectric and antiferroelectric phase transitions in Cd 2 Nb 2 O 7 , LiNaGe 4 O 9 and PbZrO 3 is presented. It is shown that in all cases of displacive phase transitions the polar soft mode is coupled with another overdamped excitation of a central-mode type lying in submillimetre and microwave range. Order-disorder phase transition in LiNaGe 4 O 9 is driven by a relaxational soft mode, but it is also accompanied by phonon anomalies near the phase transition temperature.
