Abstract

In China, though women have witnessed significant improvement in their social status in recent years, there is still conspicuous discrimination against them in workplaces. This typically includes income gap, occupational gender segregation, and glass ceilings. Family-work conflict would be the ultimate reason impeding womens access to equal employment rights. Several schools of feminist theories will be introduced to explain the root causes of the plights of Chinese women, and the corresponding strategies for change will be analyzed. The complexities of the socio-historical background, traditional culture and biological traits render it a long-sustaining problem without a definite answer.
