Abstract
As a member of the third generation of biofuels, biodiesel from bacteria requires substantial further research and development to assess its viability for commercial production. However, this biofuel is a promising solution to global renewable energy demands. As a result, the cultivation of Arthrobacter AK19 was investigated for higher lipid production through media optimization parameters and stress conditions. The results showed that when the Box-Behnken design was applied, the maximum biomass concentration was 4.78 times higher than that from unoptimized condition. Additionally, with sodium chloride and potassium permanganate at a concentration of 1.5 g/l and 3.2 mg/l as a stress agent, the lipid content was 3.34 and 1.95 times higher than that obtained under normal condition. The lipid class composition of Arthrobacter AK19 under sodium chloride stress contained neutral lipids, glycolipids and phospholipids at levels of 63.45, 28.59 and 7.96 wt%, respectively. Additionally, the major components in the total lipids were linoleic acid, lignoceric acid, palmitic acid and stearic acid.
