Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at research farm of Genda Singh Sugarcane Breeding and Research Institute, Seorahi, Kushinagar, (U.P.) for two consecutive years i.e. 2017-18 and 2018-19, with the objective to find out suitable green manuring legume crop and fertilizer dose for enhancing the productivity of sugarcane. The experiment consists of eight treatments i.e.T-Sugarcane alone+150:60:40 NPK kg/ha, T2-Sugarcane alone+180:80:60 NPK kg/ha, T3- Sugarcane+Dhaincha+150:60:40 NPK kg/ha, T - Sugarcane+Dhaincha+180:80:60 NPK kg/ha, T - Sugarcane+Lobia+150:60:40 NPK kg/ha, T6- Sugarcane+Lobia+180:80:60 NPK kg/ha, T7- Sugarcane +Moong+ 1 50: 60: 40 NPK kg/ha and T - Sugarcane+Moong +180:80:60 NPK kg/ha. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. The experimental field was medium in organic carbon, medium in available phosphorus and low in potash. Sugarcane variety CoS 08272 was planted in spring season in paired row trench method at 150 cm (120:30 cm) spacing. Green manure crops were sown between the sugarcane planted trenches after two days of planting sugarcane crop and application of organo-decomposer @10 kg per hectare at the time of incorporation of green manuring crops at 45 days stage. The experimental findings on the basis of mean data two years revealed that germination per cent was not affected significantly by different treatments of green manures and fertilizer doses. Sugarcane+ daincha+180:80:60 NPK kg/ha practice produced significantly higher shoot population (152890/ha), NMC (121650/ha), cane yield (114.07 t/ha) and CCS (14.88 t/ha) than that of green manures with application of 150:60:40 NPK kg/ha treatments. CCS per cent was not influenced significantly with different treatments. Maximum net income (255246 ha-1) and benefit cost ratio (2.21) were obtained in sugarcane+dhaincha+ 180:80:60 NPK kg/ha treatment. It is concluded that intercropping of dhaincha as green manures in sugarcane with 180:80:60 NPK kg/ha resulted 10.35 per cent more cane yield and was found to be more feasible for sugarcane cultivation.
