Abstract
English abstract Family Time – A Historical and Contemporary Battlefield in Denmark This article investigates the theme of family time and examines how conceptions and experiences of time have manifested in Danish family policy over time and come to matter in contemporary family life. From a political perspective, there has been both a historical and contemporary interest in temporal arrangements of certain families, while others and their struggles with family time appear to be politically inconsequential. This explains why some families continue to advocate for time dedicated to their families when they perceive a disparity between the family time available to them and the family time they wish to have. By discursive analyses of political documents and contemporary interviews with parents we investigate possibilities and challenges associated with family time today and explore how families’ organization of their daily lives reflect historical, political, and cultural understandings of time.
