Abstract

Suicide phenomenon is an important public health problem worldwide in economic terms, as well as in terms of human suffering. The article refers to a research in the area of prevention and health promotion carried out with a group of students, aged between 16 and 18 years, of a public high school from the town of Carmo do Cajuru, MG. The exploratory and qualitative research was made feasible through the realization of focus groups for the production of data, from the perspective of Social Psychology. The collected material was analyzed from the Content Analysis. Through the research it was possible to know the social representations of adolescents about adolescence and suicide and to verify that they are convergent with the existing literature. Progress was obtained in life promotion as a space had been provided for listening and discussion about feelings and taboos about the themes.
