Abstract

Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) comprises a nonneoplastic lesion with benign proliferation of fibroblasts and multinucleated giant cells, almost exclusively of the gnathic bones. This work presents a case of a CGCG in the mandibular region of a 15-year-old girl. The maxillofacial examination presented swelling of approximately 5 cm, with a reddish and purplish surface and hard consistency. Cone beam computed tomography showed a hypodense lesion with expansion and destruction of cortical with displacement of the associated teeth and without root resorption. The patient underwent conservative treatment with an injection of triamcinolone and calcitonin that drastically evolved to a temporary amaurosis of an eye due to occlusion of the central retinal artery by the corticoid particles. The jaw injury was surgically resected, and the patient progressed well, except for a central blind spot in the eye.
