Abstract

Abstract Optical and luminescence behavior of potassium aluminium barium phosphate glasses doped with different concentration of Sm2O3 were investigated. These glasses were varied concentrations of Sm2O3 at 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.50, 1.00 and 2.00 mol%. It was found that the intensity of absorption spectra were increase with increasing concentration of Sm2O3. Also, the absorption bands were attributed to Sm3+ transitions from the ground state 6H5/2 to the various excited states. The emission spectra of Sm3+ have been recorded under the excitation wavelength 401 nm for all the glass matrices. Judd-Ofelt (JO) theory has been successfully applied to characterize the absorption and luminescence spectra of these glasses. The measured intensities of absorption bands of these glasses, the JO intensity parameters (Ωλ, λ = 2, 4 and 6) have been evaluated. From all results illustrate that the potassium aluminium barium phosphate glasses doped with Sm2O3 have potential candidate in the development as orange lasing materials
