Abstract

Developing wear resistant protective coatings on ferritic/martensitic steel (F/M) used in fourth generation nuclear reactor is still a challenge, especially at high-temperature service environment. Herein, we fabricated a novel eutectic FeCrCoNiV1.5 HEA coating with high-temperature wear resistance by laser cladding on F/M firstly. The coating with FCC and high volume fraction of B2 phases was certified by X-ray diffraction, electron back scattering diffraction and scanning electron microscope, and its hardness and Young's modulus were also measured. Furthermore, the coating performed excellent wear resistant at 600 °C, the wear rate of which was 2.09 × 10−7 mm3/(N·m). It can be concluded that the excellent high-temperature wear resistance is mainly benefiting from the synergetic effect of inherent eutectic micro-structure with high volume fraction of B2 phase and the formation of dense Fe-V bimetallic oxide layer. This work provides a prospective strategy for fabricating the eutectic HEA coating with high-temperature wear resistance.
