Abstract

H13 steel is prone to insufficient high temperature wear resistance due to thermal wear under high temperature conditions. To improve high temperature wear resistance of H13 steel, the maraging steel coating with low-nickel was successfully prepared owing to excellent thermal stability. Sliding wear tests at 400, 500 and 600 °C were carried out for the laser cladding coating and H13 steel to comparatively investigate their high temperature wear performance and mechanism. The microstructure, phases, hardness and thermal stability of the maraging steel coating were also studied. The results showed that the maraging steel coating possessed excellent high temperature wear resistance and effectively improved the high temperature wear resistance of H13 steel by laser cladding. The superior thermal stability of maraging steel played an important role in improving its high temperature wear resistance.
