Abstract
A novelty based ethanolic extract of Drypetes sepiaria (DS) was used on carbon steel in acidic medium for anti-corrosion efficiency analysis. The anti-corrosion efficiency of DS was determined by weight loss method for various concentrations of the extracts with Zn2+ ion in 0.5 M HCl medium. For the maximum concentration ratio of the inhibitor systems (DS, DS-Zn2+) were encapsulated by the biopolymer chitosan (CS) which extends the stability of the resistive film. The resistive film that protects the surface of the metal was confirmed by the spectral studies such as FT-IR, UV–Visible and fluorescence spectra. The film formation is confirmed by the surface morphologies using SEM analysis and EDAX which also confirms the formation of complex between the metal cation and DS-CS and DS-Zn2+-CS hybrid beads by encapsulation method.
