Abstract

Chia is cultivated in small areas in Brazil, but there is a prospect of increasing cultivated area in the next years. However, doubts and questions about the allelopathic effect that chia can provoke, under successive cultures, have been addressed. In this sense, the objective of the study was to verify if there is allelopathic effect of concentrations of aqueous extract of chia, in the germination and initial development of black oat seedlings. The experiment was carried out at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR), Dois Vizinhos (DV) campus. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with five concentrations of aqueous extracts of chia (0.00, 1.25, 2.50, 5.00 and 10.00%) being evaluated. The extract was obtained from field - grown chia plants at UTFPR - DV, when they were at the beginning of maturation. The germination test was performed on Germitest paper, arranged in Gerbox boxes, with 25 oat seeds and 10 ml of gerbox extract added. Germinated seed percentage, germination speed index, germination time, root length and dry mass of the radicle and shoots of the seedlings were evaluated. The data were submitted to ANOVA to verify the level of significance of the factor by means of the T test (p > 0.05). The concentrations of the extracted extracts showed a tendency to change the values of the analyzed variables, but without significant effect on the treatments, concluding that the concentrations of aqueous extract of chia, did not present allelopathic effect on the germination and initial development of black oat seedlings.
