Abstract
In this paper, the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications of characteristic mode (CM) analysis will be explored. In particular, two potential EMC applications by CM analysis will be demonstrated. In the first EMC application, the crosstalk between two patch radiators will be evaluated without the information of the excitation source location. The effect of distance between two coupled radiators on the coupling will be demonstrated with the characteristic current distribution. The effect of a conducing wall placed between two coupled radiators will also be evaluated. In the second EMC application, the frequency shift when a patch radiator is placed in an environment with conducting objects will be evaluated. The frequency shift when a patch radiator is placed nearby a conducing wall will be evaluated by the change of resonant frequency in the CM modal significance.
